A little tidbit about Cindy and how the shop got started..

I have always wanted to operate my own business, from the time I was a child growing up in Milford. Of course, back then I never dreamed it would be a tea room here in my hometown, where my roots are. My dream may have hatched back in the 60’s, but has actually developed into reality when I left corporate America in 2002.

I had worked the majority of my adult life in Arizona at a public utility company, as a Customer Service Trainer. I decided to leave a secure position for the thrill of owning a business, since my son was now an adult and moving on with his own life. The opportunity was right and I decided to do something for myself. Little did I know how long it would take or how complicated it can be getting a small business up and running. Since we’ve now opened and business is growing, the joy of owning a business has sunk in and I am still thrilled to be a part of this.

I hope you enjoy your experience while visiting us, whether it be for a quick cuppa or an Afternoon Tea! It has been my hearts desire for several years, and it is my ultimate dream to share it with you. Please let us know how we might serve you better.

How Fiona fits in....

At last, to own a business and become one of the self employed!! Can’t do it all by yourself, that’s where Fiona came into the picture. We have known each other since I was born (yes, she’s the older sister), and what a better person to have as your business partner than a family member.

She has been on board when the vision moved us back to Michigan from Arizona and we became an equal team. I can’t say enough about working with a friend, sister, partner and confidant. Some people may not want to mix business and family, but it has all worked out for the two of us. Fiona has even decided she enjoys being a server/greeter and meeting the new faces who come into our shop.

Our name Tea J’s...where did it come from?

Our shop is named after our mother, Thelma Joy. The three of us had our first “Tea” in Arizona, and dreamed how we could open our own tea room business and decided to name it after Mom. “TJ” has been an inspiration and a wonderful supporter of our vision, and can be seen visiting us in the shop, and on occasion works as the hostess and gift shop coordinator.

What's next for Tea J’s?

Fiona and I had a hard decision in regards to selling our business/building.  We are looking forward to passing on this venture to another individual who has similar dreams and can take it to the next level.  We have made so many friends and have become a part of this community in a big way.  Your well wishes and support has been tremendous and means so much to both of us.  You never know where you'll see us next.  Stay tuned for more on that subject in future updates.
